If you’re like most people, you probably think that regular vacuuming of your carpet is enough.  Although vacuuming your carpet is something you should do to maintain and prolong the life of your carpets, a deep clean is necessary from time to time.

You may opt to do the job yourself, but it will be arduous work, or you can hire professional carpet cleaners.  So how do you know if it’s time to give your carpet a deep clean?

Here are the top 8 signs that your carpet needs deep cleaning

  1. Your allergies are acting up.

If you find yourself or your family constantly sneezing, coughing and rubbing your eyes, then your carpet may already be harbouring allergens.  Dust, bacteria, dander and droppings from pests often end up on the carpet and these can trigger allergies.

  1. carpetYour children or pets have had little “accidents.”

Adorable as they are, children and family pets do tend to pee, poop, and puke.  It’s inevitable.  So make sure you keep the environment healthy for your family by getting the carpet cleaned more thoroughly.

  1. You’ve tried everything to get rid of that stubborn stain.

You’ve done everything under the sun to banish that dreadful stain.  From trying out housekeeping remedies to commercial stain removers, the best you could do was to merely lighten the mark.

  1. You’re starting to see mould and mildew.

Be on the lookout for mouldy spots or discolorations.  Anything green, white or black that did not come from a stain will need to be inspected further.  You may not see the mould on your carpet’s surface but you might possibly get a nasty surprise if you lift your carpet and take a look at the padding.

  1. Your carpet stinks.

It’s normal for your carpet to smell occasionally when you track in dirt and soil.  But the odour should be easily dispelled with a deodorising spray.  If this doesn’t help and your carpet often smells, then you’ve got a problem.

  1. Your carpet was flooded.

If your home was unfortunately flooded, extracting the water is only the first step.  Because of the potential of water to increase mould growth and the possibility of dirty water contaminating your carpet, a deep clean is absolutely necessary.  This will sanitise, disinfect and deodorise your carpet.

  1. Your carpet looks worn down.

Constant foot traffic will trample your carpet’s fibres and accumulated dirt and soil will keep the fibres down.

  1. Your carpet hasn’t been professionally cleaned in more than a year.

Carpet manufacturers recommend getting your carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year.  If you can’t even remember the last time you did this, it’s time to call the cleaners.

Any one of these signs should warn you that you need to give your carpet a deep clean soon.  Care for your carpet regularly and you’ll prevent further damage.  Your carpet’s beauty, elegance and freshness will be restored, your family’s health protected.  Your carpet and your family will thank you for it.
