Removing Candy, Clay, Wax and Gum

When something seems firmly attached to your carpet, whether it’s candy, clay, wax or gum, you just itch to get it out.  If you don’t get rid of it soon, it will definitely become a permanent fixture on your carpet.

However, you don’t have to resort to quickly cutting your way out of this sticky situation.  There is some hope for your carpet’s rescue.  Try the following methods:

CANDY

  1. Loosen any hardened candy by wetting it slightly with cool water.
  2. Scrape off the candy using a spoon or dull knife.
  3. Dilute some dishwashing detergent with water and gently blot this on to the stained area using a white paper towel.
  4. If the stain remains, blot again, using white vinegar this time.
  5. Spray some water to rinse, blot for a last time and let it air dry.

CLAY

  1. Use a brush with hard bristles to scrub the hardened clay and then vacuum to remove the dirt.
  2. Mix one part vinegar with two parts water and blot the stained area with this.
  3. To remove any lingering stain, squirt a little water and then some white vinegar. Blot with clean white paper towels and keep replacing the paper towels and blotting until the stain is gone.
  4. Use a clean cloth to blot the area dry.

WAX

  1. If the wax is hard enough, scrape it off with a spoon or dull knife.
  2. If the wax is too soft, apply an ice cube on it until it freezes.
  3. To remove stains, cover the stained area with a clean moist towel and run a warm iron over it until the wax transfers to the towel.
  4. Moisten the towel again if it dries too soon and if it gets too much wax, replace it.

GUM

  1. To harden the gum, press an ice cube on it until it freezes.
  2. Scrape off the gum when it hardens.
  3. Dilute some dishwashing detergent with water and gently blot this on to the stained area using a white paper towel.
  4. Spray some water to rinse the area and blot again.
  5. Allow to dry.

These techniques should help you detach the sticky gunk from your carpet and eliminate stains.  But for more stubborn stains, you will need professional skill to save your carpet.  Don’t think twice about getting carpet cleaning experts to help you.
