Ah, chocolate… Dark, delicious, delectable… and messy!  Everyone loves chocolate but not on your shirt nor your furniture, and definitely not on your carpet.

Chocolate stains

So what to do when you have dreaded chocolate stains?

Clothes

  1. Carefully scrape off the rest of the chocolate from the fabric.  Be careful not to rub the stain further in.
  2. Rinse off the stain by running cold water through the back of the stain.
  3. Treat the stain by soaking the fabric in diluted liquid detergent for half an hour.
  4. If the stain persists, apply some bleach on the stain. Make sure the bleach you use is safe for that type of fabric.
  5. Machine wash as usual.

Upholstery

  1. Gently scrape off the remaining chocolate with a spoon.
  2. Dilute some liquid detergent in water.
  3. Start blotting the stain with this solution and a clean white cloth. Blot gently; do not rub.  Keep blotting until the stain is gone.
  4. Rinse the area by blotting with water.
  5. Use another clean cloth to blot dry.

Carpet

  1. Gently scrape off the remaining chocolate with a spoon.
  2. Dilute some liquid detergent in water.
  3. Start blotting the stain with this solution and a clean white cloth. Blot gently; do not rub.  Keep blotting until the stain is gone.
  4. If the stain is still not completely gone, dilute one tablespoon of ammonia in two cups of water.
  5. Very carefully dab at the stained area with this solution.
  6. Rinse the area by blotting with water.
  7. Use another clean cloth to blot dry.

These tips should help you get those blemishes out easily.  You can now eat your chocolate with gusto without worrying about ruining your clothes, upholstery or carpet.
